Scholarships

We have been giving scholarships to the neediest students since 2003, from the inception of Karuna Trust. In 2016 we reduce the number of scholarships and gave priority to eye care services. But due to the sad situation specially in North Central Province and few other districts, we decided to increase the number of scholarships given by us.

Not like early 2000, by now in the widely spread areas of renal diseases, at least one member from each family has got affected with renal disease. Specially at most times, the breadwinner of the family has got affected and most of them either have passed away or live with complete disability. Mostly the people who get affected with renal disease are middle aged poor farmers, with three to four children in their families. Once the bread winner gets disable or passed away the mother becomes helpless and it affects the education of the children. Very often we get requests from the principals of the schools and the divisional secretaries in North Central Province, to help the orphans who have lost either single or both parents due to renal disease.

From 2020, we have commenced a project to give scholarships to the orphans who have lost their breadwinner due to renal disease or cancer. We have started the project with 100 scholarships. We give US$ 7 a month and books, stationary and a pair of shoes worth US$ 16 at the beginning of every year. This we continue for a period of 8 years from year 6 to year 13. 100% of the money that we receive will be utilize only for the benefit of the orphans and not a single cent will be utilized for administration or any other expenses.
