According to surveys conducted by State and UN Agencies there appears to be an alarming increase in the rate of malnutrition among children, pregnant and lactating mothers in Sri Lanka. The prevalence of anaemia was 16.2% among pregnant woman and 19.6% among lactating women. Almost 20% of the children in the age group of 0-5 are stunted and 21.6% are under-weight.
