Under the “Help a Child to See” project, we held two vision screening programs in Galewela and Naula Educational Zones, under the supervision of the two Zonal Directors. We did the preliminary screening of 3864 students from 64 schools in Galewela Educational Zone and 2386 students from 34 schools in Naula Educational Zone. Preliminary screening was done by the teachers, whom we trained for the purpose.

From the preliminary screening 623 students from Galewela and 328 students from Naula were selected for final vision screening. The final vision screening of the selected students was done under the supervision of Specialist Dr. Nalin Gunasinghe and 284 students from Galewela and 212 students from Naula were detected as poor vision students. Altogether 13 students were detected as low vision students and they were directed to Low Vision Centre in Kandy.

The students with poor vision were given low price high quality spectacles made according to the prescriptions. We had two simple ceremonies to handover the spectacles to the students.
