Karuna Trust started two compost production units in Welioya and Maththaka targeted towards two groups of young famers. They were provided with two crushing machines manufactured by Jinasena & Company. Agricultural officers in the area provide regular instructions to improve the quality of compost production with the view to improving the quality of farm produce. The farmers have been advised to use the compost in their fields first for the purpose of highlighting the benefits of its use and then to market the compost among other farmers in the area. The main purpose of this project is to popularise the use of compost among famers.
